Epson Perfection V600 - #1 Best Photo Scanner

Epson Perfection V600 delivers outstanding quality scans from photos, film, slides and everyday documents.

In our list of Top 5 Best Scanners, it ranked at #1.

Design
Epson Perfection V600 comes with a black, long container with some smooth edges and corners at the front of its top panel.

At the front side, there are 4 scanning buttons, set by default to tasks such as copy, scan to e-mail and scan to PDF, can be programmed to start other applications, too while at the back, the only sockets are for USB connection and for the scanner’s external power supply.

Under the lid you can slide off the document mat to reveal a light source for the transparency scanner.

Two reversible templates are provided to lay on the flatbed, which between them enable negatives and slides, both 35mm and medium format, to be easily positioned for scanning.

Moreover, there are 3 small lamps at the front of the device: two small lamps located right beside the scan keys indicate if the device is activated and give a message in case an error occurred.

Performance
Installing the scanner software is relatively straightforward, and you can choose to install selected items of software (such as drivers and OCR only) or the entire lot in one go.

After everything has been set up, you can initiate the scanning procedure using the buttons on the front of the scanner or through the Epson Scan interface.

With 6400 x 9600 dpi resolution, this scanner ensures precision film scanning for sharp, vivid reproductions up to 17" x 22".

Epson Perfection V600 also has a built-in Transparency Unit which allows scanning of four 35mm mounted slides or 12 negatives.

There are some color enhancement modes that can also revive some of the vibrancy of older looking photos.

The scanner also produces good-looking text, though very small fonts may look a bit fuzzier than what high-end document scanners produce. It also offers optical character recognition, rendering text-searchable documents.
