Infant Optics DXR-8 Best Video Baby Monitor Review

Infant Optics DXR-8 is a video baby monitor that allows you to keep an eye on your baby without having to stay in the same room.

In our list of Top 10 Best Baby Monitors, it ranked at #1 and also has received 2018 AWARD WINNER: Popular Mechanics Best Baby Monitor.

Design
Infant Optics DXR-8 comes with a flexible design that can be wall mounted or placed on a dresser or shelf in the nursery.

For ease of use, the circular button in the middle of the control panel on the right lets you select menu options, as well as adjust settings like the volume or brightness.

While at the very top side, there’s a power button that you press and hold to turn on and off or tap to turn off the screen and use it in audio-only mode.

Performance
The camera comes with 3 different lenses (standard, zoom, and wide angle) that can be changed quickly (swap in and out). It can be rotated remotely from the handheld screen to move left, right, up and down.

The default lens (a standard 2.5 mm focal lens and an aperture of f/2.8) is perfectly fine for mid-range coverage, enough to see your baby and their immediate surroundings.

The zoom lens allows you to place the camera further away from your baby’s bed while the wide angle lens gives you a full 170 degrees panoramic view of your baby’s bedroom.

You can link up to 4 cameras to the Infant Optics system and can automatically cycle through the cameras every 12 seconds giving you virtually continuous monitoring and audio surveillance in multiple rooms.

As to supervise your baby in low light conditions, the infrared night vision will do a great job.

Infant Optics DXR-8 uses a wireless 2.4 GHz FHSS signal that can reach up to 700 feet / 210 meters outside, but realistically 85 feet / 25 meters inside with up to four walls separating you from your baby.

The 3.5″ display allows you to see all the cameras at the same time in split-screen mode.

The sound will only come from one camera at a time, but you can change which camera for the audio while the auto-switch option allows the camera and sound to switch about every 30 seconds.

In general, the video and audio quality is excellent.
