BMW reinforces its commitment to the future of electric mobility system by opening their first 'i Store' on July 25. To celebrate it, BMW also has developed a hybrid-powered folding bikes, the i Pedelec. This electric bike can still be used when folded and very easy to take it to the bus or train. BMW also claimed that 2 i Pedelec will be fit into the BMW i3 EV trunk.
BMW i Pedelec is using 24 volt electric hub motor equipped with gear, batteries and high-performance disc brakes at the front and rear wheels. The electric hub motors itself was placed on the 16-inch rear wheels that have some kinds of 3-speed transmission.
The electric motor provides power to boost the speed up to 25 km / h with 20 Nm of torque. The electric motor on i Pedelec also can serve as a generator to recharge the batteries when braking. While the lithium-manganese batteries are claimed able to present mileage between 25 to 40 km in a single charge. And if the battery is completely discharged, the charging process only takes four hours on home electrical network. But if you use a quick charger, the charging process can be cut to 1.5 hours.
BMW i Pedelec has a total weight of less than 20 kg thanks to the use of lightweight and strong materials like aluminum and carbon fiber frame.
